Getting dark along about now… and isn’t your head getting a little sleepy? Sort of tired after riding all day long?
Well, cheer up. Your friend the porter will be along in a few minutes and perform his magic for you. He’ll move you out for a little bit… perhaps across the aisle, and then you want watch him go to work. With his big key he’ll unlock the upper and take down sheets, mattresses, pillows, and almost before you know it, there’ll be a crisp fresh bed all ready for you.
But when he comes to ask you about making up your own bed, he’ll ask you how you want to sleep. Head toward the engine, or feet toward the engine? Tell him whichever one you like best. I think that you’ll like to have your feet toward the engine. It really doesn’t make a bit of difference, though.
So off you go to the washroom, and get cleaned up. And when you’re back, your bed will be ready for you to crawl in.
Your suitcase will be snuggled right between your bed and the floor. The porter will place it where you can get your things easily. Take it in the berth with you for a few minutes, if you wish, and then slide it back.
Once inside, button up the heavy green curtain clear as high as you can reach. Then there is a little light green one inside of that which will drop down too, and you’ll have two walls inside your castle. There’s even a coat hanger for your dress, if you want to hang it up. And all the rest goes in the little green hammock stretched between the windows. You can get the knack of slipping into your pajamas in just a jiffy.
Before you snuggle your head into the pillow, just be sure that all your things are where they won’t bounce into the aisle in the night. Put your odds and ends on the tricky little shelf, or into your hammock. They’ll be all right.
You’ll probably be bothered about what to do with your purse with its precious ticket and money. Well, if I were you, I’d take it right to bed with me. Then you know where it is.
Oh yes. Another thing. If it looks to you as if it would be a little cool, just ask the porter to see if he can get you an extra blanket. He has plenty of them in his linen storage cabinet, and he’ll be glad to get you one.
And there you are. With nothing to do but push up your shade and watch the stars go by.
And when you wake up in the morning, you’ll be hundreds of miles away… and you’ll be closer and closer to the end of your trip. Just wait till tomorrow!
Sleep tight!
Good night!
